Introducing any information technology into an organisation presents risk and it is esential that the process is managed effectively to deliver the fastest benefits and the least disruption. Whilst individual flair and initiative are highly valued at CIBER, these must be complemented by a very structured approach. Our strong project management methodologies ensure that goals are clearly understood, and bring together the resources required to achieve them on time and on budget. CIBER’s Project Management Methodology (CPMM) CIBER's Project Management Methodology (CPMM), combines best practices from the fields of Project Management and Quality Assurance with practical insights gained from CIBER’s extensive delivery experience. The approaches are consistent with themes advanced by organisations such as the Project Management Institute (PMI), the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), and the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). This foundation ensures that CIBER’s methodology incorporates a holistic approach and proven processes. A Formal Discipline CPMM defines the full life cycle of project management and presents processes, tools, techniques, templates, and example artifacts that enable effective execution of IT engagements. It also provides a consistent discipline for managing CIBER engagements across different customer types and product sets sets. CPMM can be tailored to satisfy customer requirements, but inherent principles will not be compromised. The methodology guides a project’s quality and efficiency and incorporates continuous improvement. The methodology defines the Project Management process using three phases: Planning, Execution and Closure. A phase is a distinct stage of the project management life cycle and represents subsets of management activities and milestones. This structure provides oversight and control of a project throughout the entire life cycle. Though normally sequential, the phases may overlap or become iterative (especially between Planning and Execution) depending upon the nature of the project, the level of risk, and the deliverables. Planning - includes those activities that confirm the projects scope, establish project control processes (e.g., Change Management, Risk Management), and baseline the projects schedule and budget. The culmination of the Planning phase is the official Statement of Work that constitutes all work that will be performed and the budget, schedule, cost, and approach of the project. Execution - ensures that the project progresses according to plan. Communication is a key activity of Execution and visibility into every aspect of the project is provided through status reporting, project reviews, quality assurance, and the control processes established in the Planning phase. Closure - includes those activities required to complete the project both from CIBER's and the clients’ perspective. Though many of the activities are continuations from the Execution phase, in Closure these activities are completed. Final client acceptance of all deliverables and services is secured. Risk, Issue, and Change logs are closed. A final reconciliation of actual cost and schedule with the baseline plan is performed. The total project effort is compared with the Statement of Work to verify that all work is complete.
