Oxfam GB Selects Ascent CRM From CIBER UK to Enhance its Engagement with Supporters

Oxfam GB, the development, relief and campaigning organisation that works to overcome poverty and suffering around the world, has selected CIBER UK to implement Ascent, the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solution developed to meet the needs of fundraising organisations in the not for profit sector.

The project supports a major business programme within Oxfam to enhance the organisation’s interaction with all of its supporters and donors. “Introducing new technology will underpin the delivery of some major objectives”, explained Julia Mckechnie, Deputy Fundraising and Supporter Marketing Director. “The Ascent CRM solution from CIBER UK underlines our commitment to become more supporter centric, increase supporter engagement and loyalty, introduce greater agility into our marketing strategies and communications, empower our staff through the provision of better information and, at the same time, reduce some of our operational costs through greater efficiency.”

The investment will see the solution implemented at the organisation’s head office in Oxford providing around 100 staff with improved customer information and contact centre functionality. The system will go live in the third quarter of 2007.

A major aspect that Ascent CRM will provide is the ability to integrate information from across the organisation to provide staff with a single view of each supporter. Sioned Jones, Head of Business Support at Oxfam, believes this is vital. “Like many organisations, Oxfam has information about supporters held in many different places throughout the organisation. Ascent will integrate this data and provide us with a single, cohesive view of each supporter and their history with us. This will allow us to conduct a more informed dialogue with our supporters. In addition, the system will give us much-improved analytical capabilities, enabling us to conduct complex analysis and segmentation. We can then combine this with the integrated e-marketing and telephony channels to conduct more effective communications to our supporters.”

The system will deliver a number of major benefits as Sioned elaborates. “Better and more relevant communications with supporters will enable us to enhance our, already high, levels of retention as well as encourage even higher levels of support. Reduced duplication of data records combined with more targeted and efficient campaigns will dramatically reduce mailing costs and increase our gift aid contributions. Better information and analysis will reduce general operating costs and allow us to focus more effort on developing more value added activities and initiatives”.

Oxfam selected CIBER and Ascent CRM after a rigorous evaluation of the market. “In a world where CRM system implementations continue to have a high failure rate, it was critical both supplier and customer be confident of success” said Simon Jennings Head of IT and Purchasing Strategy. “We wanted a supplier that understood our needs and one that would work closely with us as a partner to help meet our key objectives.”

Gary Springall. Managing Director of CIBER UK, commented, “We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with Oxfam, who make such a significant impact through their humanitarian relief, long term development, and campaigning work. We look forward to helping Oxfam further develop their relationship with their considerable supporter base.”
